Health Careers Technology
Students who are interested in a career as a Patient Care Technician will be offered the opportunity to shadow various departments within the acute care setting and will also complete an unpaid internship at WellSpan Good Samaritan Hospital to meet the clinical requirements of the program. The student will then be eligible to take the Patient Care certification exam through the National Healthcareer Association the end of their senior year. Students will earn certifications in Basic Life Support/AED through the American Heart Association, Stop the Bleed certification and OSHA 10 for Healthcare certification. Curriculum of the program includes: Medical Terminology, Healthcare Provider Skills, Infection Control, Nutrition, Communication, Professionalism, Legal and Ethical Issues, Safety in the healthcare profession, End of Life Care, Basic Structures and Functions of the Human Body & Related Diseases, Medical Records and Electronic Record keeping. Students will be offered 3 college credits through HACC College in the High School program.
Completion of the full year Health Careers Technology program with the College-in-the-High School option also provides three HACC transferrable credits.

Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Essentials
Fundamental understandings of CPR and AED training will help students understand with comprehensive awareness training how and when to use an AED to help save lives.

Blood-borne and Airborne Pathogens
OSHA requires employers to safeguard employees who have a reasonably anticipated, occupational exposure to blood or other potentially infectious materials.

Students can be employed while in high school through the Cooperative Education program. Qualified students may obtain paid employment after successful completion of classroom training. This program expands the school curriculum by providing students with additional skills through supervised work experience at local businesses. The employment is scheduled during the time the student would be in attendance at the Career and Technology Center.
